THE COURSE

This year we are playing Badgers Sett and Deer park

Hole 1

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 1 is sponsored by South Hereford Audi

Here you will have your team photo taken.

A short Par 4 over a slight brow, position your tee shot on the left half of the fairway to open up the green. A short iron is all that is left for the second shot which leads you to the generous green. Miss the green left and you run the risk of finding the hazard.

Low handicappers will be looking for a Birdie but don't be disappointed with a Par.

Hole 2

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 2 is sponsored by Advantage Business Supplies

A downhill Par 3 with a large green is protected by bunkers either side of it and out of bounds to the left.

A mid iron shot should safely find the green and with a two putt Par you'll be more than happy.

Miss the green either side and face a tough up and down.

Still a long way to go!

Hole 3

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 3

A blind tee shot with out of bounds along the whole of the left hand side and trees guarding the right.

A well-positioned tee shot along the left hand side of the fairway will open up a mid iron shot to a long, forgiving green.

However a pushed mid iron could see you land in one of our deepest bunkers on the course. 2nd shot club selection is vital here as the green is nearly 40 yards long.

Hole 4

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 4 is sponsored by Ingram Hawkins & Nock

A dogleg left, relatively short Par 5 gives you a good chance of a birdie.

A fairway bunker positioned to the left is reachable of the tee, avoid this and you can have a crack at the green in two, which is protected by water to the left and bunkers to the right of it. If laying up in two, avoid water to the right. Reachable in two, but if out of position off the tee take note of the dangers that lurk from 100 yards in to the green.

Hole 5

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 5 is sponsored by Scottish Life

This Par 4 demands a well placed tee shot just on the right hand side of the fairway, if too far left then your view to the green may be blocked by the two large oak trees situated on the left of the fairway.

Three large bunkers are ready to punish a slightly pulled or pushed second shot surround the generous green. Tee shot is crucial here; a 3 wood off the tee to keep it straight will still leave you with a short iron in.

Hole 6

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 6 is sponsored by WH Ireland

The 6th hole on Badgers Sett is our signature hole and is quite possibly one of the most spectacular holes in the region.

Playing to a green 100 feet below the tee guarded by a horse shoe of water makes this a challenging hole for a golfer of any standard. Swirling winds on this hole can cause havoc and could be the difference between putting for birdie or fishing your ball out of the water and facing a difficult up and down: therefore club selection on this spectacular hole is of upmost importance.

Hole 7

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 7 is sponsored by Virgin Holidays

A well-struck tee shot up the right half of the fairway should put you in perfect position.

Out of bounds down the left hand side of the fairway come into play with your second shot, lay up and face a short iron third shot or go for it in two and run the risk of meeting the two deep fairway bunkers to the right of the fairway. Club selection is very important for both your second and third shot running through the back of the green will leave you facing a mammoth up and down.

Hole 8

Hole 8 is sponsored by Aegon

Stroke index 1 on the Badgers Sett loop makes getting a par quite a challenge.

Pushing your tee shot will see you in deep rough or maybe even water however a pulled tee shot will see you in deep rough again with your view then obscured by trees.

Aiming right of the fairway bunkers will leave you a mid iron second shot to a two tiered green with deep bunkers on the right and left.

Hole 9

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 9 is sponsored by Liverpool Victoria

On this final hole of the Badgers Sett loop three fairway bunkers are awaiting a slightly offline tee shot, a well placed tee shot will be rewarded with an open fairway.

A mid to long iron second shot into a green with just one deep bunker at the front right should see you on the way to a solid par.

Stop now for a lovely drink and cake, all free of course.

Hole 10

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 10 is sponsored by Chesterton Humberts

A good opening Par 4 with the fairway sloping from left to right, a tee shot down the left hand side will leave you a mid iron over a ditch to a green protected by bunkers either side.

With the green sloping from back to front anything past the pin will result in a tricky putt. Par here will likely see you pick up shots on the rest of the field.

Hole 11

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 11 is sponsored by NPD Services

Stroke index 1 on the Deer Park loop, this is a cleverly designed Par 4 (Par 5 for the ladies), where a solid drive needs to be positioned right of the large oak tree which sits in the middle of the fairway.

After a well executed tee shot a mid to low iron second shot should leave you putting for birdie.

Beware of a bunker 25 yards short of the green and anything long will result in a watery grave.

Hole 12

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 12 is sponsored by Abacus Associates Financial Services Ltd

After a tricky start a relatively short Par 4 gives a good chance of a birdie.

A well-struck tee shot is needed to pass the two oak trees which otherwise may block your shot to the green. A short iron to a green protected with a bunker round the left hand side leads to a good birdie chance.

In the summer months the longer hitters can drive this green for a nice two-putt birdie.

Hole 13

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 13 is sponsored by Brewin Dolphin

The only Par 5 on Deer Park opens with a generous fairway but a pond awaits a slightly pushed drive for the longer hitters.

Keep your second shot straight and leave yourself anything from 100- 150 yards for your third shot. If you choose to go for the green in two, take into consideration the three bunkers around the green. There are no prizes for going long, a steep bank awaits and you will struggle to get the ball up and down.

Hole 14

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 14 is sponsored by Artemis

A relatively short Par 3 makes this hole one of the easier holes on the Deer Park loop, however a sliced or hooked tee shot will be punished by the water on the right or the deep bunker on the left.

Hit the green below the hole and face a good opportunity to make a birdie.

Not far to go now, the last few holes could be crucial. How about first prize!

Hole 15

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 15 is sponsored by Teme Leisure

An uphill Par 4 with fairway bunkers positioned on the right to catch any mistimed tee shots, keep it straight and leave yourself 150 yards to the green.

Take an extra one or two clubs for your second shot to a generous green.

Although a relatively short yardage, the difficult uphill second shot makes Par a good score here.

Hole 17

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 17

This long, tricky Par 3 demands a good tee shot with a carry of 170 yards over water.

A pot bunker situated on the left of the fairway has to be missed if the ball is to run onto the green off the left to right slope.

Any pushed tee shots will result in a difficult up and down.

Hole 17 bring you up to that all important 18 and even more importantly the bar.

Hole 18

Winners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf ChallengeWinners of the 2011 Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge

Hole 18 is sponsored by Chesterton Humberts

A Par 4 to finish off Deer Park boasts four fairway bunkers awaiting a pushed or pulled tee shot, find the fairway and then a mid to long iron second shot will take you to a green surrounded by bunkers. Before hitting your second shot note where the pin position is as this green is near 30 yards in length.

Long Hitters can drive it close to this green in the summer, leaving a great chance to finish off with a birdie.
